Artifactuality was founded by Christine Moh and Bob Mickens, with a dream to create beautiful things – unforgettable design that does its job for broadcast motion graphics, the Web, print and beyond. The team has discovered the true synergy where Yin meets Yang, East connects with West. Artifactuality today is a fusion of ancient influences, old school sensibilities and new school technology and concepts, converging to create beautiful things together. Christine Moh Christine was born in Taiwan and moved to the United States when she was a teenager. Her natural artistic skills, sharp eye, and personal discipline led her to The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York. Studying with the giants of graphic design, including Paul Rand, she advanced her innate abilities into becoming a passionate designer, with a reverent sensitivity to typography. After a few advertising gigs as a designer and junior art director, she accelerated her career by mastering the new tools of the digital age in television broadcast, where she began her career and became a guru of broadcast graphics production. Moving and learning quickly all the tricks of the trade at the fastest-paced graphics departments in the news television (CNBC and MSNBC,) Christine advanced her broadcast design career and landed her dream position: Motion graphics designer for MTV. For the next six years she was an integral part of Total Request Live, the Real World, and the Video Music Awards, delivering the latest graphic style to the highly sought-after youth demographic. Starting Artifactuality in 2005 and guided by the company's mantra of "We Create Beautiful Things," Christine has continued her pursuit of excellence in design and effective communication. In recent years, under Christine's leadership, Artifactuality has been recognized by the Telly, Davey, and Creativity Awards. While broadcast has been the proving ground for Christine's talents, she has kept moved in step with the media universe. Today, her deep portfolio encompasses everything from Web design to giant HD Screens in Times Square, independent films and beyond. Bob Mickens From coming up with snappy weather map slugs for legendary NYC meteorologists Storm Field, Sam Champion, and Lloyd Lindsay Young, to being Creative Partner at Artifactuality, Bob’s career in media has been wide-ranging and diverse. In News, Entertainment, Advertising, Filmmaking, and Sports, Bob has earned a reputation as a “big picture” creative. Knowing how all the little parts fit together in a project from his years of intensive production experience, he spearheads great ideas to their completion. With a Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute, Bob brings his “out of the box” approach and freestyle thinking to Artifactuality. An early adopter of digital video advances, he continues to keep one step ahead of the tools. Bob’s work as an art director and designer at WWOR, WABC, MSNBC, Refinery Post, and Artifactuality has been consistently recognized in the creative community. The tally so far: five Emmy nominations, one Emmy, five BDA Awards, one Telly, one Davey, and one Creativity Award. Bob is also creative director at MapMastery, a division of Artifactuality specializing in the creation, care and feeding of broadcast maps. Through this company, he has brought his personal brand of map training and implementation to CNN, CBS, WCBS, WPIX, WWOR, FOX5, Fox Business and many more. |
