News from Artifactuality October 2008
Greetings!

This month's newsletter features a few things you may find interesting if independent film is your passion. Two independent films Artifactuality collaborated with have been completed and are finally going to be seen by the world. Artifactuality also had the opportunity to "keep it in the family" by tapping into the talents of brother Mike Mickens and bring a little SoCal to Broadway and 45th.

Artifactuality is always proud to present the work of the creative people we collaborate with. Check out their links provided throughout this newsletter.

Enjoy! Send us your comments.

Artifactuality congratulates Director Paul Devlin and his merry band of hardworking filmmakers and eyes-to-the-sky astrophysicists in the completion of the adventure/science documentary BLAST!

The 2008 film festival season is finally here and BLAST! has been accepted into multiple film festival venues around the world.  Artifactuality provided the opening title (980KB), logo, on-screen design, maps, and 3D animation (2.4MB) to help tell the tale of adventure from the Arctic ice cap to McMurdo Station in Antarctica.  Go to the BLAST! website to find out how you can see this inspiring and thought provoking documentary.

"WITHIN" Screened in Los Angeles

Congratulations to another partner of Artifactuality: Director Hanelle M. Culpepper.

Hanelle has finally seen the completion of her first feature film Within. If you are into thrillers, check this one out, go to the website:
www.within-themovie.com.

Independent film making takes a lot of patience and tenacity, and after two years Hanelle persevered. Within was finally screened at the Mark Goodson Theater in
downtown Los Angeles in September. Artifactuality designed and produced the mood-setting opening title sequence (9.5MB) for this psycho thriller. Congratulations, Hanelle! Look for it on DVD in 2009.

MTV's The Real World Hollywood Reunion
 Real World Hollywood Reunion

From the Sunset Strip to Times Square

When MTV wanted graphics and an opening to dress up their Real World Hollywood Reunion LIVE broadcast that would be simulcast onto the 44 1/2 giant HD screen outside its Times Square studio, Artifactuality knew it had a rare opportunity to bring a little LA to NYC.

Bob called his LA cinematographer brother Mike Mickens and asked if he could scope out and shoot the best classic neon signs of Hollywood. He didn't need to look--he already knew where they were.  So with his Red camera in hand, he got on the freeway and digitized the Sunset Strip. The footage was crisp, with deep blacks, rich color and with a vague familiarity--Didn't I see this sign in the background in Double Indemnity? The imagery was authentic LA!  Artifactuality took the Tinsel Town inspiration and built the backplates of the open title, transitions and rest of the graphic package that were seen on the air and in the heart of Times Square, NYC.

Click here to view the opening title sequence (4.5MB).

We are in the midst of developing a brand new Artifactuality--An enterprise of creative collaborations. If you are interested to hear more about it, call or email us and we will be glad to discuss the idea with you.

Happy Halloween!
